Planting trees IS a summer activity!

Youth Planting Trees
Last summer, the Sacramento Tree Foundation partnered with YouthWORKS to pilot our first youth-led tree planting project targeting low-income communities. The project was hugely popular with both the youth participants and the community. As a result, this summer we are working with 75 youth, ages 15 - 22, from City of Sacramento programs such as YouthWORKS, the Work Investment Act, and Primetime Teens. These youth, educated about the benefits of trees, are walking door-to-door encouraging homeowners to plant trees. Ultimately, this project will result in the planting of more than 70 trees. More importantly, by engaging the adults in their community, these youth are fostering inter-generational dialogue and mutual respect while at the same time bettering their own homes and streets and providing an important community service.
